Each day I have watched disasters across the world happen and, so much more. Weather disasters like the Hurricane that just took aim at Texas and wonder why it is so. Each weather disaster is bigger and worse than the one before it, it seems to me. The frequency of them has become more apparent also, sadly. What is even more apparent, is the lack by many politicians, like President Trump that Global warming is a hoax, are you kidding me, it’s real. Humans as a species believe themselves to be in infallible when in fact we are not, and we are destroying our own ecosystem and environment and ourselves in the end. We are the only species that can save the system that keeps us alive, for no other species has the ability to correct their actions more than us. Sadly, though we have the global warming deniers here in our world and countries, and they stop the process of saving the world with methods that already exist and processes that could be implemented but are not. So slowly, but surely the climate and environment we are living in is getting more and more destructive and dangerous resulting in Hurricanes, Twisters, Sunamies and who knows what other weather acts the planet and environment will do to protect itself against our human destruction of it. Yes I know, you will say I am crazy, but the truth is even though humankind is not fighting to save its own environment that is keeping it alive, the planet is trying to. Which is why we get these serious weather disasters we are getting, it’s not all natural folks it’s man created by the pollution products we dump into the environment. Former Vice President Al Gore is correct and he is fighting the good fight when he tries to save the world from human kind polluting it. My heart goes out to the victims of Hurricane Harvey in Texas and I wish them the best and hope our Government and their own state will work endlessly to help them overcome it all.
Next, a discussion of the United States Navy and its accidents at sea. I see after all the accidents and mishaps so far this year, President Trump has decided it is the fault or inability of the Admiral of the Pacific Fleet, so he relieved him of his command! Sadly, I disagree with the President in this matter, I served my country for 16 years and as an ex-sailor who served aboard a Destroyer, an Oiler, and an LPD as an Engineer, it is not the Admiral who runs the Fleet that is making the mistakes here. It is the Captains aboard the ships and the men on the bridge in each case. In the old days, the Navy had lookouts manning the bridge wings of every ship they had and collisions didn’t happen unless intentional for defensive or offensive action in wars. Training and depending on the actual man power aboard a ship works the best, yes accidents do happen but not like the ones so far this year. Sadly it is a dependence on technical equipment installed aboard these ships that are causing the problems. Men and women are only human and when they become dependent on radar screens that look like video games to guide their ships that are becoming lazy and that is a fact. The best weapon, the best operation and guidance aboard any naval vessel is still the sailor, with their ears and eyes wide open and their attention focused. You can take all your radar screens out and a ship will still run fine if the manpower is correctly trained. Training is key, but so is knowing when to depend on the man power and not the electronic equipment period. There is a thin line between training and over training though that can exhaust the crew, so a delicate balance is needed.
