Comics Books, and Movies and Childhood

I was born in 1956, and during the 1960s when I loved to sit down and read a good comic book there were some of the biggest superheros in history around plus some heros not so super. We had Dick Tracey, We had Flash Gordon, Dracula, Superman, Batman and many more. Now These superheros of my youth are all a part of big screen movie history.  I would spend days and nights sitting in one place reading old comic books from DC and Marvel, stories of course made up, by the writers and artists of these companies. They fueled a need in me to be a super hero myself to excel at something no one else would, or to be the best I could be in all ways. The Avengers, The Fantastic Four, The Justice Leagues, all promoted team work and togetherness, while showing how to fight evil and problems in the world. They affected billions over the years and shall continue to do so. Some of the great artists and writers have died these days, but Stan Lee of Marvel is seeing all his characters now hit the big screen in movies everywhere. God Bless ya Stan Lee, ya did make history with them and impress many young minds and hearts and mold them too.

I know many will think I am crazy writing about Comic Books here on my blog at my age, but, these books were used to teach manners, love, respect, hard work and much, much more to the children of the 1950s and 1960s. I had friends who had boxes and boxes of comic books to read and who would read them over and over to escape cruel realities they lived in too. To Escape real life families that were cruel and mistreating their children was not a fantasy back then, and it still exists today. The children who escaped then thru comic books are today their collectors, and the hard working people in the world making it a better place today. So when a child looks at a comic book or graphic novel or the art in it don’t discourage them encourage them, the lessons to be found in many of these tales, built and pushed some basic things in american Society needed to survive.

For years and years I remember laying on my bed staring into a make believe world from comic books. Tales of The Justice League, Batman, Superman,Green Lantern, Spiderman, The Fantastic Four, Iron man, Thor all now on the big screen, including The X-Men and more, lit up my dim little world and helped me ease into the world at my own pace. Authors and poets led the way for me too, from Shakespeare, to Jack London, to Robert Ludlum, all brought me to a richer life filed with dreams attainable. and when you see dreams, understand them, find what is important to you and reach for them, and don’t give up you will attain!

My Life was built on these tales and lives and stories from these comic books! It led me to explore the woods, it led me to dream, it led me to write on my own and to deal with real life emergencies and loves lost and found too. It led to dreams of being a hero, of protecting family, and friend, it led to my 16 year Naval career and to my being the Disabled American veteran I am today, serving my country. So when people doubt Comic books, they shouldn’t, they enforce so many good things in children.

The Avengers A Comic Fans Movie!

Movies, movies, movies! I am not rich nor do I get a chance to go to a movie often, yet, after waiting for a long time, a movie I waited on finally came out, The Avengers by Marvel and Disney Studios.

As a child and boy I grew up buying comic books about these characters and teams, such as the Avengers, The Fantastic Four, The X-Men, and then the DC comics side too, such as Green Lantern, Batman, Superman, and yes even Wonder Woman. It was the art work that drew me in and then the stories as they got better over time. Even Spiderman was fun and different in a world full of pain and no pleasure they brought hope to mine.

I am glad that Stan Lee who created these superheroes, allowed people to finally make movies out of them, and create a world of fantasy, fighting and joining and getting along on-screen. He stuck to his guts and told the Studios and Producers to do the characters his way as they were in his books and wham the hits began hitting the big screens. Spiderman, The Hulk, The Fantastic Four, The Silver Surfer, Iron Man and now The Avengers. The characters in the books stayed for all time as Stan Lee and Kirby made them. And I hope they will on-screen too, for the characters are loved by so many of the baby boom generation and their offsprings they deserve to be given the right production and way on the screen. The Avengers brings a cast of characters to the screen that needs little improvement at all, and is fun to watch, including the villains and beasts and armies. It’s all a fun time at the movies if you go, the intensive fight scenes, the teamwork and the way it all goes leads you to believe in teamwork and heroes, right down to Nick Fury!

If you like excitement, a plot, a story to follow and great graphics and three-D affects The Avengers is a film to see. If you were a comic book fan as a child and want to see them come to life on the big screen and cheer and laugh and enjoy, then The Avengers is a movie for you!

Want it Folks, Want it All !

There are joys in life that are simple and pure and each of see them, live them and know it for sure. First loves always big in anyone’s life. First Graduation, First bike ride, and so on. The first time you find something you love and keep doing it. These are all things important to our growing up.

For me they weren’t simple to find, I was too busy being a smart ass and wanting attention and getting the wrong kind. But everything always took longer for me, I was born with some serious medical problems, I had one hundred and ninety-nine seizures in my first nine months of life, till my older brother pulled my tray from my high chair and I went head first to the floor. Then they finally stopped, funny how that happens taint it and no Doctor can tell me why.

Reading became a love of mine at a very young age, I would and still read comic books even at 56 years old. The stories are from imaginations and so are the characters in the books. But it is always fun reading them, I graduated from comics to science and microscopes for a few years till I got bored and headed to the woods to check out turtles and frogs and such. I was always a loner but, I always found something to lose myself in and not get involved with trouble at least.

Today, my hobbies are gardening in the warm weather, computers, video games, writing and yes, still reading. Half of life’s pleasure is doing what you love and being with whom you love the other half is attaining what counts best to you. You can’t be anyone else but yourself, me I love reading, writing, science, nature and it makes me happy. I write and write when I can letting stories, poems, rants and raves fly onto my computer screen and on web sites. My poems are of loves, and my stories can range from mysteries, to Sci-Fi, even into love. But one thing I know no matter who may or may not read them, they are my way of getting things out I need to for therapy and to help myself deal with other things.

I was born actually with Attention Deficit Disorder and Hyperactive, so I started from a deficit in the first place between the seizures and this. I have come a long way though. I went on to become a sailor for 16 years, a father of two daughters, a writer and reader and more. I graduated Elementary School, got a Ged Diploma for High School and went on to become the only one of my mother’s children to ever graduate college, getting a degree in Hotel Management at age 40.  No one else did what I have done and overcome so well, how do I do it I don’t know, but I did.

The point is, no matter who you are, where you are, your circumstances, or in your life, there is always an way to get somewhere and be someone, all you have to do is want it bad enough. Want it folks and sooner or later you will find a way to get it, or get where you want to go.
