Life Lessons: Cherishing Each Moment as a Gift

The Gift from God Above

William M. McCurrach

September 9th, 2025

At times, we stop and think,

We wonder and marvel,

We smell and sometimes stink.

But in the end we are all the same,

We laugh, we cry,

We play we work,

We love, we hurt,

And we survive.

No one can say how long we shall roam the earth,

They can just tell you,

About your birth.

We are born,

We live, and then we die.

We all want respect, and to be loved,

and honored,

Before we die.

It’s an inner drive in all of us,

It makes us move,

Makes us groove,

Makes us love.

Just Remember it is all a gft,

From God up above.

The gift is life my friend,

Live it well, from beggining,

To it’s end.

The best thing any man or woman can hope for,

Is to be remembered fondly and know they were loved.

For that is our destiny believe you me,

From the Heavens and God Above.

I am glad to be back doing my blogs and poems and stories and rants again. As time goes on and I age one of the few things I love to do is write. I may blog on politics, trump, The Economy. I may post poems like above or better. I may write stories, or ask questions about many things. I range from poetry, to stories, to rants to opinions, to yes, even questions. But, what I don’t do, is, sit and wait for people who get angry over anything I do. I write, it;s me folks, my poems are mine, my stories, opinions, rants are mine. I just use my right unde rour constitution and bill of Rights for freedom of speech. That my friends and others is what is nice about America for me.

My Poems and my stories are online folks. My blogs are here of course. I have written 51 short stories and many poems I have lost count actually of those. But, if someone wants to check and look through some poetry I wrote you should be able to find in on Facebook on my page there. https://www.facebook.com/william.mccurrach.7?fref=pb&hc_location=friends_tab&pnref=friends.all

As to my short stories, they are on Amazon Ebooks or Kindle as only Ebooks. https://www.amazon.com/stores/author/B00CQMGTSM Just so, anyone can find some.

I haven’t really attempted a short story or book in some years now, since my wife passed in 2021. I have left it be as it is. The Poems, I do as I feel it, or when I feel them. Some are emotional, some inspiring, some fun, some even silly or stupid, but they are mine. To me, I would rather share them, then destroy them. Some people like them, some do not. So, I do what I want because of Freedom of Speech in this country, because I can. It’s that simple lol.

Notr everything I write will appear online in any form, why, becaus ethere is always ina writers world, things you do not wish released, or that are only meant for private. SO we all do it folks, whethe rit be love letters, from our teenager years to, personal correspondse we have with friends, and lovers. So, I hope what I share brings a smile to some, or makes them think. And most of all, I hope, some out there get me, and understand it all. Have a fine and Happy wednesday folks, and stay healthy out there, and enjoy life please.

The Writing Bug!

Each day I wonder what subject to cover in my blog, or what story or poem to write. How does one decide what to put in writing and tell the world or private friends or family?  You don’t want your life explained or examined by strangers or anyone else, so you tend to stay with subjects meant for the public to  read and care about.

I have covered so many subjects on my blog from Politics, Republican primaries, Democratic too, and benefits that will affect the whole senior population over 50 in the United States. Items such as will Social Security be there for those who paid into it, or will it be all borrowed out? Will Medicaid and Medicare still be there, or will they be phased out by the rich so the poor have nothing left to lean on?

I have covered the Death of a Diva in Whitney Houston, who all now know died a cocaine related death in a bathtub at age 48. The sad loss of such a talented person hits us everyday, in many ways and each of us is affected a little differently.

Doctors fighting Cancer, illnesses, and more I have written about. I did a story called The Disease which deals with the rising rate of cancer among people in the USA and how it has affected my life and my beliefs and my way of thinking.

My stories range of love, and death, and Naval life, but the biggest stories I have ever told are family stories the stories of parents gone wrong, children in pain and survivors.

My poems have ranges the same breath and width of the human soul, from love, to lust, to health and to death, yet I still fight a subject and write as much as I can, hoping humanity will experience and understand what I say and enjoy some of it. Am I wrong for doing so, I doubt it and i don’t tend to use language that can disturb or upset people I write in plain American English is all.

The hardest part for any story-teller, poem teller or blog writer, is to flesh out what you write about to show the emotions, fears and cares of the people you write on and the scenes have to be vivid and catching too. The subjects can range of course but we all know, what the audience really wants is something to catch their mind and grab them and carry them through the story so they can look at family and friends and show them or repeat it themselves.

Doris Kearns Goodwin does that, Robert Ludlum did that when he was alive, and Jack London did it also in the early 1900s. Writing such as Poe gave us poems that hit the soul and make us think, Shakespeare wrote so many plays he is never forgotten. Singers and writers write songs of stories and songs of love, they may range from rock and roll to country to even classical, but they still write and pass it all on.

America’s past and its future is built on writers and the stories, ideas and poems and songs they write. It is a country that learns lessons from the written, sung and spoken words. In the end it can be the writers of all kinds that can bring the world to  peace or destruction by what they write and show to all of us. Writers carry a large responsibility as well as the respect of many in the world. We all look for the items written that touch our souls, hearts and minds and we find them written by people who are in the end human in every way. That is what is called the writing bug that bites many humans in the world.

Theraphy and Stories and Facts & WattPad

As I said in a prior blog people suffer PTSD in different ways and deal with it in different ways. My way of dealing with it is to write stories, poems and rants and raves here on my blog and else where.

My stories range from military ones, to love stories, to sci-fi and more, and even poems I have done. I found a new outlet for many of them now on a web site called WattPad.com. WattPad works by allowing people to submit their stories, books, in different lengths or as compiled by the writer and then helps you promote your writings to the world online.

It has become an outlet for many different people from young adults to older folks like myself to express or release the writings they have done over time for different reasons. It works on many different operating systems including android, and windows that I know of. It contains hundreds of thousands of stories, poems, and more and is free to read and submit to, a great outlet indeed for many.

Many of the sites for Writers online help to teach a writer how to write, how to express themselves and each use the knowledge they gather to write in their own styles and ways. Another great Organization and School for writing is Long Ridge Writers here in Connecticut, I took a writing course through them and the editing they do is great and so is the suggestions they give.

My Stories have now shown up on WattPad, and another website called LongStoryShort has published and accepted my works. It is a proud moment when someone finds out what they wrote is good enough for someone to want to show it to others to read. I have poems and Christmas Stories they published.

The therapy writing produces for PTSD and Depression is great for many, it helps ease the pressure, strains, tensions of the conditions, So these websites and writing sites are to be thanked for their abilities to get people to write in general whether they are a victim of Depression, PTSD or any other mental condition or physical one too. I actually look forward to writing my blog here daily and writing other stories and poems and rants and raves too  in other places, it is like a relief valve at times on an old steam-powered radiator!. It helps and is fun.
