November Starts/ Holidays Blues/ Stories for all!

Image

Happy Monday to all!  I hope everyone’s November has started off correctly for them and things are going to be looking up for  the Christmas Season approaching quickly.  While our economy sucks, sometimes it is best to admit you are hard up or in a bad financial bind, then to try to over extend yourself for this Holiday.  While The Christmas Season is a time children and adults alike expect, presents from loved ones, sometimes you just have to tell them I am sorry, I give all I can and could to you. Life is not a bowl of cherries, when you don’t work, have no real income coming in and can’t afford to give like you have in the past! As much as I love my children and grandchildren, I am not rich, so I will try to give by writing and stories and love. I try every year to touch the hearts and souls of my daughters, their children and others, by reminding them it is the love and respect we share that is more vital, than the material things in life.

Attached you can find links to a few of my little books on Amazon’s Kindle E-Books; One is my latest book, which is at 18,800 words long, I call it Who Makes Us, us.

November/Introduction/Red Sox/Daylight Savings Time/Story

November has arrived folks! Hard to believe we are under 60 days to a New Year’s Eve once more! Next up is an American Tradition of Thanksgiving and then the crazy Season of the holidays begins in full swing as everyone gets ready for Christmas Season! Ah, life will go on no matter what won’t it folks, as my Dad said when he was dying, time will continue on, whether we are are or not, so live to the fullest and have fun while you can!

My Introduction to my newest little book I have now on sale, on Amazon’s Kindle E-books goes like this folks:

What makes a person who they are and what they become as you’re growing up? Is it the color of your skin? Is it the area you’re raised in? Is it the parents you had? Is it DNA or circumstances? Well, the fact of the matter is, what makes you, you, is the people you’re with, and who you’re attracted to and stand by as friends and family!

I am hoping some will buy it and read about my life and understand how i became me, but who knows it may bomb or disappear and never be read at all, but at least I made the attempt. It is 18,800 words long. I hope some will read and enjoy it is all I can say.

Yesterday, I watched in amazement and excitement as The Boston Red Sox celebrated their 3rd World Series Title in a decade, and I sat back watching and said to myself, I wish my dad was here to have seen it happen. He died in 1990, after raising 5 kids and being a Red Sox Fan all his life. Sadly, he never saw them win, but I did for ya dad 3 times, God Bless ya!

A little reminder folks, today is the start of Daylight Savings Time, do not forget like I did to turn your clocks back, it messes ya up a bit!  Throws ya off a bit when the clock says one hour earlier than you thought it should!

Here is the link to my newest little Book: I hope you will check it out

Writing/Boston Red Sox/Wake Up for 2014

Writers we write for one reason or another, some of us are obsessed with events in history and people in time or places or events. Others by thoughts of what could be or can’t be, or madness and joy. We writers write to get out the repressed feelings we have on a subject or another, and we try to express how and why we feel about it all and what we might do or would do it a situation. Or we write of things that were beyond anyone’s control and try to explain why others did them. In the end the words that appear on paper or on the computer screen and in books and articles, express how we feel and there is no writer who does not write without some bias or prejudice in what they write. The fact is all writing in a magazine, book, newspaper or elsewhere is colored by the person writing it and their own views and feelings, thats writing isn’t it folks!

Boston Red Sox 2013 World Series Champions, will hold their Celebration Parade Today in Boston. A Team that came back from the worst record in Major League Baseball to the First in Major League Baseball has to celebrate! The Town of Boston, the Red Sox and Their Fans will proudly display their faces, uniforms, and the Trophy to all in BOston and enjoy and drink in the warmth of their fans, what a day it shall be Boston, Boston Strong, Boston Sure, Boston Red Sox foreverMore! Go Red Sox Go! Love ya all! celebrate well, but Safely Boston, you deserve a Celebration not just for the Red Sox winning it, but for surviving and being Boston Strong!

The 2016 Presidential Election cycle will launch in 2014 I am sure! When it does, each candidate of each party should be fully examined before the American People make a choice. While your at it Americans, stop and think about giving your next President a House and Senate they can work with and pass bills and laws through that will help the country and  it people and the economy. For no one person as President can run a country if their Congress doesn’t want to work with them, it’s called deadlock folks and we have it and suffer for it now in President Obama’s Second Term. Wake Up!

As the Presidential candidates will line up and show up soon in public and start giving speeches, stop and think Americans which one makes more sense, which one will help more people and which one will improve jobs, the economy and can handle leading us in the world in the right direction and get along with others and play well. At this time, I think we all know who the Democrats will put up as their Nominee  if she will run, but what will the Republicans do to face off against her ? That could be a surprise, but if his name is Cruz you can forget it is all I can say!

Children Center Years and Lessons/Red Sox

I spent two years of my life, locked away in a institution, when there was nothing really wrong with me. But I survived and got some good out of it anyway.

The Children center is located in Hamden, Connecticut on Whalley Avenue next to Quinnipiac College  and Across the street from a Reservoir! The Front is a Gate made with brick arches, a black wrought iron fence and the property is surrounded in the same. As you enter the front you see the Administration Building first and to the left a green like a city or town might have. That was back then the year was 1965, and I wasa young boy of 9 years old when they sent me there!

The above statement is how I started a story I call The Children Center Lessons and Years that can be found on Amazon’s Kindle E-book for sale. I hope it will draw some to read it, it is a story of how a misunderstood child got locked up and worked his way to release once again.

Next subject today, As The City of Boston celebrates the World Series Victory of the Red Sox, I hope all fans will do so calmly, and carefully and no one gets harmed. Hard to believe the Red Sox have won three World Series Championships since 2004, after the long drought of the Babe Ruth Curse isn’t it. My step-dad who was a Red Sox fan all his life and who made me one too, lived his whole life without seeing the Red Sox win one, he died at 59 years old of cancer in 1990. So Dad for you I survived and stuck with the Red Sox and now they have won three in a decade, I hope you have enjoyed them from above. I hope some shall read my short story:

My latest lil Book on Kindle e-books

Have a Good day Ladies and Gents and see you next time I hope!

Thank You to The Boston Red Sox and Congratulations on The World Series Victory!

I want to Thank The Boston Red Sox for a great Season and Congratulate them on their World Series Victory !
I was born a Red Sox fan, and it took me 57 years to get to Fenway Park, and I accomplished that as a gift from my Sister and her boyfriend on September 14th, 2013, when I saw the Red Sox and Jon Lester Beat the New York Yankees, 5-1.  As you can see I stared at the game for nine innings, just check the photo here!
My story may be like many Red Sox Fans who never made Fenway Park, in Boston to see a game, with a few exceptions. I grew up a Red Sox fan thanks to my dad who was one. He went his whole life and died in October of 1990 without once seeing the Red Sox win a Championship, cancer took him from us, and I wish he had lived to see the Victories in 2004, 2007 and 2013 with me, we would have celebrated greatly.
For me seeing the RedS ox pull off a World Series Victory in 2013 for the third time in the last decade was a great feeling. My Favorite Players are Jon Lester, David Ortiz, Dustin Pedroia, and Jacoby Ellsbury, and I congratulate all of them on the win. I underwent Lung Cancer surgery on September 3rd, 2013, they removed my middle lobe of my right lung and sections of my upper lung. They got all the cancer and I will be fine, for I was fine enough to be at Fenway Park on September 3rd. And yes I am doing fine now too. My sister’s boyfriend wrote the Red Sox online that I was coming to Fenway Park to see a game because I am a cancer survivor and a Disabled American Veteran who served 16 years. I suffer from 6 herniated discs in my back, PTSD, depression and more. I received a call from the Red Sox Ambassador on the 2nd of September prior to the game that Saturday.
I want to Thank The Boston Red Sox Organization for the gifts they sent me and letter and say, I have lived as a  Red Sox Fan and will die as one too! Love ya Red Sox go Boston Strong!ImageImage

Boston Baby!/ Obama Care/Cancer Recovery/Writing/

Boston Red Sox win 2013 World Series Championship! Says it all doesn’t it, a team that was in last place in 2012, who fired a manager that bad mouthed them, and brought in a few key players, wins it all!  Amazing isn’t it folks, how a team, can help a city so much and a city a team so much, if they stay tight! After the mess in Boston of the Marathon Bombing and the slow recovery from it, Boston now has a Championship team, for it’s city and it’s fans. God Bless The Red Sox and Boston as a City and the people of Boston, if any city deserved a World Series Championship you did!

Next subject, ObamaCare or the National Health Act, which is now law. Ladies and Gentlemen and anyone else who will listen, it’s the law damn it, use it or lose it, so to say. Look Canada sits on out Northern Border and has National Health Care Insurance it works, the British have it in Britain, so why can’t we all just calm down and put this law into full effect, and lets move on. Yes I know the Web Site has glitches in it, I haven’t seen one web site yet that didn’t at the beginning, so why worry about it, use the damn phone line, sign up and let’s go. Across the country, many Americans who never had health insurance due to prior conditions or refusal by Insurance companies, now do, all because a law was put into effect to help them. The Republicans and their faction, of them called The Tea Party have already costs the American Economy 24 Billion dollars in Costs trying to defund or overturn it. Wouldn’t it be better to fix it, make it work? I know it sure as hell would be cheaper at this point! Stop trying to defund it, stop trying to destroy it, fix the Web Site and work within the law and lets get Americans Affordable Health Care.

Talking about Health Care, my health is improving slowly after my Lung Cancer Surgery which happened on September 3rd, 2013. I am surviving nicely and healing well thanks to the Doctors at the Veteran’s Hospital in West haven Connecticut. My lung capacity is back in almost full force, yet my surgical wounds which did heal have lumps under them which cause me discomfort unless I am standing up for a while. I do have a cough after almost 8 weeks, and I believe that is due to allergies. My weight is holding around 200 lbs. and I feel ok, till I get tired and nap now and then!  Life in the late 50s in age, is not life in your 20s folks, ya slow down, ya do less, ya complain more and ya enjoy simple pleasures best! take it from me, as I live on and try to surpass the age of my mother’s death, who died at 59. Cancer is a  family history in my case, My Father died of it at 55 years old, so I already outlived that one, my mother went at 59 of lung cancer too. My Grandfather on moms’ side had cancer too and died at 71 years old, so family medical history is vital folks, keep an eye on yourselves.

Finally, Writing which I try to do in bunches and at times not at all, it is hard to maintain a stream of words to a story and make it work it seems. Yes I have written poems and short stories and yes some true some not, but in the end they always end up short and like a rambling. I want to put together a story or book that will sell and make some bucks, but also tell a story that will sell, and people would like to read. So, I started a story, I call, What Makes me, me!  It starts with the start and follows my life and the people who contributed to who I am today. I hope when done I can format it correctly, edit it well and assemble it in such a way as to sell it as an E-Book. Time shall tell, thats for sure, I am now at or around 11,000 words into it. Wish me luck will ya folks?

Short Navy Tale- Boiler Technicians Revenge

                                        Boiler Technician’s Revenge

In the U.S. Navy all who serve aboard ships, know the engineers work the hardest and keep the ship moving and supply many needed items and services. The Boiler Technicians supplied all steam for all purposes, and fresh water too for the whole ship. Among the many things, the engineers do supply by way of their steam, are heaters for all spaces on the ship, which are controlled by valves in the plant. So no matter what, a naval ship is dead in the water and cold as ice without the engineers.
One of the problems with being a Naval Engineer of any kind is, the work and long hours one must put in to be efficient at your job and maintain and operate the plant itself.  Naval engineers must know how to operate each piece of equipment, how to safely shut each down, and how to save the plant and ship in a crisis or event of an attack or battle. So we lived in high temperatures, and under fluorescent lights, for more than three quarters of the time we were at sea and underway. We traveled the world of course, doing missions that protected our own country and many others along the way.
But once each year we faced the drills we all hated no matter what. And they always took place in the heat and humidity of Gitmo Bay, Cuba. Engineering drills, practices, for all kinds of possible damages to the plants. We have the drills and procedures always there on the deck plates and ready to go, we had to.  Engineering Operational Procedures and the drilling processes were created to prevent loss of lives and equipment. And the Navy drilled us once a year on them bringing Engineering Causality Control Teams aboard ship to grade us and watch, us run them.
Onboard one ship I was on, called the U.S.S Pounce, an LPD out of Norfolk, Virginia, we ended up going to Cuba for drills twice in one year. Engineers are a hearty bunch and tough and we can take and do a lot, but even we hated the heat and humidity of Cuba. And we had a saying, we do anything, with nothing for so long, we can do everything with nothing and get it done! That was the way we worked and kept going.
Anyway we ended up in Cuba twice that year in the scorching heat and humidity and, we engineers blamed the Captain, not ourselves of course. We bitched moaned, argued and fought our way through though and ultimately made it to a passing grade on the second attempt. But we were not happy engineers at all.
Upon our return to Home Port, we found we had three months in port before our next underway period and we tried to enjoy being home. Before our next mission and underway period came up for us. What a variety we faced on this one, we went from the heat scorched hot temperatures of Cuba up into the North Atlantic Ocean and the cold.
Not thinking we would ever face more engineering drills again that soon, was a wrong idea for us engineers. The Captain decided at some point, we engineers needed more drilling. Well he started the drills in the Atlantic Ocean in the cold and we knew we had no choice but to do them. But a bunch of us got together and decided to get even with the Captain, unbeknownst to him or anyone else. Once the drills started we remembered who had control of the steam for the heaters in the cabins cabin. Revenge was about to come into play.
During a break in the drills, we decided we had enough of the drills time to stop the damn things. We came up with a solution, that the Captain didn’t like but we did and he never found out what happened.
We sent a guy into the overhead of the fire room, walking along the pipes and all. Had him close the valve to the Captain’s heaters in his cabin up top and then remove the reach rod that hung down to open and close the valve. A reach rod is a long pole attaches to the valve wheel and hangs down so you can turn a valve from the deck plate level.
The North Atlantic gets cold in winter months. Once closed we had the guy hide the reach rod and no one said a word. The next thing we got was a call from the Chief Engineer, what happened to the Captains heat? We told them we had no idea, it was working fine. The Captain was getting cold now.
As the cold increased in the Captain’s cabin and on the bridge the drills slowed to a halt in the engineering spaces. The reach rod couldn’t be found for sure and the Captain wasn’t a happy man.  He had the Hull Technicians redesign a new reach rod and make one up, and bring it to us. His order was get it put on and that valve open. We of course took our time doing so. And we told the guy putting it in to do so loosely on purpose. So, when the Captain decided to restart the drills the valve would suddenly get shut off and the reach rod would disappear. We all were threatened with Captains Mast and being busted for it all, but you can’t bust a whole division of engineers and survive at sea. And of course no engineer would talk or say who did it. In the end we won the competition and the drills stopped on the cruise. We heard about it for months from the Officers and were warned if it happened again well, you get the picture. But the reach rod always had a way of falling off and disappearing no matter what!  You may drive your engineers and work us to death Captain and make us sweat but in the end we got even yet.  In the end we learned a lesson and so did the Captain, he learned not to overdo and we learned he could get back at us too. But the drills did stop for the time being. Which is what we wanted anyway!Image

For all, the above is a true naval tale, the ship names is changed and no dates are given for protection of the sailors who lived it.

Comic Books and Characters/ Society

Growing up in the 1960s’ comic books were still cheap at a nickel a shot and slowly rose in price over the years. But what was great about comics, was it was a make believe world you could escape to to get away from real life as a kid. You could dream of being Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, Spiderman or Thor or Iron Man or whoever you wished to be. The stories were always of people in trouble rescued by people with super hero powers. in make believe world of course. I used to stand in the store at the comic rack and escape into the stories, to get away from real life problems in my family and life. And I know for a fact millions of other kids did the same, for the same basic reasons, it made family life and problems disappear and easier to live with.

Now the price of comic books is around five dollars a shot for some of them and it will kill the comic book industry. Sadly the heroes, we grew up with will slowly disappear and the fantasy worlds will too. Even with the add on of movies and DVDS on these characters and fantasy worlds, the price of being creative and entertained by it is getting far too high. What will happen to the worlds and characters and fantasies many of us escaped to as children, that my friends is still a question top be answered! But for me as a child, escaping into comic books kept me sane and stable and kept me happy. That and old books and board games. The simple days when not everything was electronics and video game, is gone and it is all a crying shame isn’t it?

I will leave you with that thought for the day, wasn’t life simpler back then in the 1950’s and 60’s then now and less violent too? We played hide and go seek, Army in the woods. 1,2,3 Red lIght and Dodgeball, what happened to those days? Monopoly, Parcheesi,  Shoots and Ladders, and all the boys were into sports!

Those days are now long gone it seems, we have gone from a We Society to a Me Society in the World and the United States. Back then, if you got a flat tire someone would stop and help you, if a child got a bee sting or fell down someone would help them and fix them up, not so today in the Me Society! Sad isn’t it?

Veteran’s Owned and Yes Operated my Blog

Veteran's Owned and Yes Operated my Blog

For all who Served and all who Died,
I served too and have been Disabled since, Six Herniated Discs in my spine, PTSD, Sleep Apnea, Anxiety, Depression and more. I did what I did not for me, but to keep our country free, I did it not for myself, but for my family and those of everyone else!

So, when you read my blogs and stories and poems too, remember the Veterans who Served and suffered, just for all of you!

Childhood Dreams !

Childhood Dreams, we all have them don’t we, I want to be like Dad, I want to be like mom, I want to rule the World, I want to be King or President, I want to be a Doctor, A Lawyer, a Chemist or something else.  We all have dream as children that are unfulfilled as we reach adulthood , sadly that is how life goes isn’t it?

I dreamed of walking on the moon, dissecting creatures to find out what made them live, comic book characters and stories of glory. I ran the woods as a kid, studying creatures small and large and exploring nature and finding myself happiest alone in those woods. I was dragged back to civilians and real life by parents who hated my disappearing that way, yet it wa sthe only place I felt safe, how about you? Did you dream of happiness, a family that was together and caring, a family of support and love and not find one? I know thats what happened to me, so I went out and as I grew older I adopted surrogate families and parents and people who cared. It was to me a natural reaction to a world filled with anger, pain, fighting, feuding and more, so I did it. What would you do I ask you?

I grew up hoping to be a comic book hero and to save the world. I wanted to be the Flash, then the Green Lantern, one for speed to avoid trouble and reach it to stop it, and the other to will my way through life with a ring on my finger that could defend and protect me and save the world.  Later my fantasies would turn to being Captain America or Thor, or even a Member of The Fantastic Four, but none of that would happen of course, but comic books saved me, gave me morals to think on, and desires and dreams a child should have, good ones.

My childhood was spent running the woods, reading comics and books and trying to stay away from a family that destroyed itself in violence and screaming and more, sad isn’t it? But, stop and think folks, more and more children are doing this these days in America, running from home to home looking for acceptance and caring and love, why? Because we are too busy making money and dreaming of where to spend it and to stay up with the Jones next door. I wish to God my childhood had been different, my older brother sad he wished we were rich growing up the last time I talked to him, me, I didn’t care about money we had enough and a home and clothes and food. What we didn’t have was a caring, compassionate family, and an environment of peace. We had violence, yelling, screaming, beatings, swearing and drinking and physical and mental pains. Why, well I think my step-father said it best as I was growing up once, as he said ” Some People are just not made to have children or to raise them”, He was talking about mom, but should have looked in the mirror too. Sad isn’t it how children get born to people who have no idea how to raise or care for them and who basically abuse them and ruin their addition to society by it all.

So when we all look back at criminals, the mentally ill, the abused and dangerous, we forget to review their childhoods and their inner pains, problems and diseases they may have suffered through.  We should look closer and see if they are mentally ill, or really a societal menace or not, it would help to solve some things in life and the world.

I will close this today, with a statement for all to think about, in the world and among the children are many who suffer endless abuse, sufferings, beatings and verbal abuse from parents who never wanted them or cared to have them. My greatest Question is this, Do the poor children in these situation, with Attention Deficit Disorder, Hyper-Activity, and more deserve what they get? No, so someone should do something or at least as a country and world we should be more aware of these things and try to help. If we can’t, then we are failing not only the children and their dreams, by the world as a human society!
