Super Bowl Sunday Memories
Super Bowl Sunday has arrived in 2012, and the teams are the New York Giants and The New England Patriots. After working their way through a 16 game season, each team also worked their way through playoff games to get to the big ending. With music, sportscaster galore, and an audience of millions if not billions it will take place. The hype of the Super Bowl by the NFL is amazing as is the viewers it draws in. Money flows like water during and after it and lasts into the next season come September.
When I was a kid, Super Bowl Sunday consisted of a morning of working with Dad around the house to repair and rebuild it for a couple of hours, Then an afternoon of shopping for groceries for the big game and preparing the menu and chips and pretzels and drinks. By the time we finished it all, we had supper, snacks, and places assigned and picked out in the livingroom for it all.
I remember dad would sit in his lazy boy recliner all comfy and I on the couch next to him. We would shoot the shit as the pre-game began and listen to all the things said about each team and their stars. Then there was of course the injury reports, and we would argue who was really injured and who wasn’t and why.
Finally the game would start, and not a pin could be heard to drop in the house, the women, my mother and sister would disappear and all that remained was me and dad staring at a 27 inch tv screen. We would discuss calls and plays picked and why they worked or didn’t. Turnovers were big events that always decided the game, and dad and I would yell and scream at the screen and players. Always once the game was decided and we knew the best was over, suddenly like a magic switch, dad’s eyes would close and the snoring began. Ah, the good old Super Bowl events with dad.
Dad usually had one team and I the other for each game. We would cheer, yell, scream and even bounce in our seats with emotions of joy to despair. Amazingly, no one hurt themselves of course or anyone else. After the Game ended we discussed the game, who won and why and which players starred and which ones stunk too. It is a past time of enjoyment, we had together and both loved.
Then there was the spring coming, as Spring Training would start for Major League Baseball. The Red Sox would begin training in Florida and the Season would begin on time. Dad and I would discuss pitchers, hitters, managers and schedules. We would spend spring and summer watching the Red Sox rise and fall out of contention each year. For us it was tradition to know about Boston’s traditional slide from contention in September, expected as it was each year.
Dad would tell me how the Red Sox traded The Babe to New York and brought upon themselves the curse. Funny, but who would have thought Dad would believe in such things!. Yet he did!
Before the Red Sox finally won a World Series again, Dad passed away from cancer at a young age of 59 years old. No more, do we prepare the same for big games, nor share a livingroom and stare at a 27 inch screen screaming. No more do I hear dad telling me what defense a team plays, or how they will score next. No more are the chips and drinks laid out carefully, the pizzas bought or home-made prepared. No more is dad here to see and share it all with me.
As I sit here and remember it all, dad, in his brown lazy boy recliner I bought him for Father’s Day years ago, and me on the couch, sharing it all just so. That is what Super Bowl Sunday is for me, a tradition of remembering dad and the fun we had together. Thats my Greatest Super-Bowl Memory of all, God Bless ya Dad!. Yes, Dad the Red Sox did finally win the World Series more than once!.
Things not to Do/and The Stooges!
Things not to Do/and The Stooges!
Whoever wins in November’s General Election, should listen to the American people for a change or better than what is currently happening now. Sadly no matter what the American people say or do changes will occur in Government programs and more. Yet, the Candidates should be very careful what they touch and don’t touch, you want to cut budgets and save money there are many places to cut, instead of messing with people’s entitlements. If you cut Social Security, Medicare, Medicade or aid to the helpless in any way you better be prepared to hear from the people. Cut programs that are not worthy of being there and that don’t help anything.
Cut No Child Left Behind a worthless program that advances children who really are not ready to advance at all. Cut some justice programs, or some programs we pay for but no one uses. Be smart and don’t mess with people’s benefits, we earned them. Politicians tend to cut programs they have no business in, they don’t use them so they can’t understand them.
Cut your Space Program, some, don’t send us to colonize a moon or anything else we can’t afford it. Stop spending money we don’t have folks. Your borrowing forty cents on every dollar you spend, and in the mean time China is raking in the interest alone on what we borrow and getting richer daily. Stop borrowing, and that means don’t borrow from the Social Security funds either, they don’t belong to the Government, they belong to the people who paid into it for decades and need it in their older age. Run the Government like you would run your house and family if you were middle class or poor, only buy what you need and save for future problems. America is hurting damn you all, listen!
Americans voted in George W. Bush and then let him destroy what Clinton built before him, by coming up with stupid plans and directions for us to go into. Mr. Bush took a surplus of money and fortune and turned billions of dollars in the black, into a sea of red on the balance sheets. He totally went crazy with stupid shit. Why were we in Iraq, well, Bush wanted to prove his daddy was right and it could be done and straighten out his daddy’s reputation is all. We don’t belong in Afghanistan either damn it, those people hate Americans yet we go fight their wars for them and protect them, why? Bring the troops home, the weapons home, the money home and lets put it back into our economy and our people and make us better. We can’t police the world, we can’t defend the world and we can’t stop evil everywhere, we do not carry and wear a big red S on our chest and can’t be hurt. We can and have been hurt by over expenditures, over protecting others, and reaching out to places we don’t belong.
Americans are not The Avengers or Justice League of the world, or any super heroes at all. We hurt when we help others and it shows. They undercut our trade agreements, they cut our export and raise their imports into our country and undercut the trade balance in their direction and cheat us. Wake up Washington, wake up Congress, balance the trade and you help balance America.
Now, onto to one more thing here. The Republicans and their primary race for their nomination. It is becoming a circus and the three stooges, Curly(Gingrich), (Shemp) Ron Paul, and (Larry( Santorum) seem to want to keep messing with (Moe) Mitt Romney and trying to prevent him from the nomination. They should all stop, reevaluate their positions and the comedy act they are running, and worry hard if any of them can beat President Obama. The sooner they do back off, and let Mitt Romney have the nomination the better it will be for their party. If Willard Mitt Romney is the nominee of his party for the November Election, then he is gonna need a lot of help and backers to beat Obama, consolidate now and help him, stop trying to tear him down. Just my recommendation at this stage folks.
Old Argument/ Star Trek and Reality
Old Argument/ Star Trek and Reality
The old argument came to mind for me once more that science experts have fought over forever. Did we come from, 1) The Big Bang, 2) Evolution, God or where? Which is true, I say this to you we as humans were never intended to know.
I can give you some thought on what I see and can prove somethings about, like my theory on life’s cyclic aspects. And the familiar patterns I see about me as I age.
When you were a child and playing outside in your own backyard somewhere, did you dig in the sand and mud? Did you notice the ants scurrying under your feel and watch them for a while as they hurried about, trying to gather food and return home?. Well, human beings do the same believe me just on a larger scale on the planet itself. The ants build homes( ant hills, and they all work together if in one nest), and they build what is proper to house their own. They then go about gathering food and feeding themselves, their own and their leader. Funny right when ya stop to think of it, humans are doing the same things.
On a microscopic level, humans are just a blip in the Universe and Galaxy we are in. We scramble across the earth just like ants, looking for places to survive and live and gather food and supplies. Weather comes it wipes us and the ants out home wise, but we rebuild. We survive and don’t stop doing what we have always done since our beginning, fight for survival.
Above us lies space, other planets, a Galaxy and Universe and many more. Somewhere out there is another civilization, another race alien to us, looking at us or for us just as we are looking for them. Will they find us or us them first and what will the encounter be like? We have no answers yet because we really haven’t met anyone out there have we?.
Gene Roddenberry had a vision with Star Trek, a Vision of a space filled with civilizations, races, creatures and worlds, filled with life. He took simple things like salt and pepper shakers and used them as tools. He invented aliens who were logical, to those who were emotional and even violent. Amazing what the human mind can fathom on its own!.
I do believe space is a final frontier indeed, but before we can solve what is out there, we need to solve what is here and make peace with our own kind, humanity of all types. And we can not reach out there as Roddenberry showed and taught and produced for entertainment purposes, unless we can all get together here, and we can afford to reach out there.
We can’t build space stations, and colonize the moon, if we can’t afford it. How can one look beyond feeding its own people and nations and keeping them going? One can not and logical say they are doing things right!
The saddest part of watching the world is the way the politicians of all nations have basically the same stupid ideas. Slow down politicians, take care of the survival and needed problems first, before reaching for the stars.
What Romney’s win means!
What Romney’s win means!
February 2012 is here today and last nights final votes from the Florida Primary gave Mitt Romney a double-digit win over Newt Gingrich and more than that over his two other opponents, currently left standing. Romney also gave a speech afterwards that shows him growing in stature and confidence, but still ways to go before facing a current President in a General Election.
As to the three other candidates on the Republican side here; Mr. Gingrich, Mr. Santorum and Mr. Paul, should now begin to reevaluate their campaigns and think about consolidating behind Romney. It is apparent now, that, Newt Gingrich had some staying power in South Carolina, but, his baggage of his past as Speaker of the House and Congress and his former marriages will not allow him to go over the top. He has a lot of anger and he will fight on a bit just to make a stink and get even with the world. But pride and envy, as well as anger, will not get him the nomination.
Mr. Santorum, God Bless you for running also, we all hope and pray your children are all well, especially Lil Bella. But there does come a time when a candidate must stop spending good money for a hopeless cause and this is your time Sir. You have fought a good fight, battled through Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Florida, gave some very good speeches, and debates and made some smart comments when you said lets stop talking how to slap each other around and give the people the answers to issues. I applaud that answer and honesty Mr. Santorum, I really do, and admire you greatly for that. It is time though for you to finally, pick up the pieces, save your money and go home and take care of your wife and children. Your only spending more than you have in a losing cause.
Ah we are then left with Mr. Ron Paul, the rouge of the Party in my opinion. The man who wishes to buck all the odds and have his say no matter what. While I admire Mr. Paul and his views in some areas, in the end Mr. Paul is not a true Conservative Republican, his views are too outlandish and liberal. While I agree with his ideas on wars, we don’t need them, we also don’t need to police other countries, he knows as I know he can never get the Nomination of his Party they would never give it to him. I believe what he really wants is a say in the Republican Platform at the convention. He will get his say is all and he has earned it by the way he has run.
Mr. Romney is now officially the front-runner for the Republican Nomination, and he needs to work on the issues that face America, and the Issues he will face come the General Election. He also needs to work on his speech and style and his way of presenting issues and himself to the public now. He must begin to come up with solid plans for the economy, health insurance, Medicare and Medicaid and social security, and how to create jobs, jobs, job. Get some damn good advisors Mr. Romney and find concrete ways to produce innovation, invention and creation of work for the American people. If you want to win come November, you will have to have concrete solutions for the issues facing America and be able to clearly put them forward in plain English for the people to understand!.
The Stooges and The President
The Stooges and The President
The End of January 2012 has arrived and the Floridians must speak today as to which Republican they want to get the nomination and run against President Obama. Four Republican on one ballot in any state is like Moe Howard bring his Stooges around and himself and asking you to choose who ya like! Ya had Moe=Romney, then ya had Shemp=Ron Paul, then ya had Curly=Gingrich, and then Larry=Santorum. It’s a funny act to watch but one must stand up and be real or no one competes.
I watched the Florida Debates and every time Curly(Gingrich) opened his mouth, old Moe(Romney) would slap him upside his head. Then after a while Shemp(Santorum) had enough bull and said so, and in the end all four Stooges stood there and looked so lost as the debates ended. Larry( Ron Paul) was indeed like an outsider added to the show for relief. It all was one hell of an act in its day wasn’t it?. But is it what we need to run for President or not?
Like the Stooges in their beginning, they had a manager who paid each one hundred dollars a show and no more and used them as the act to make himself look good, his name was Ted Healy. Well, the Stooges beginning is about to happen all over again soon, when President Obama steps up to the plate to run for reelection. He will be like Ted Healy was to the Stooges in their beginning, staging them, and paying them respects and comments but never enough to get them over the top. Thats the way I see the 2012 election so far this year, it’s a running circus of Stooges and Manager about to have a contract dispute, over who gets to do what and how much they get paid. Sad isn’t it, but true, it happens because people run for the Presidency and have no idea what they are pursuing or why or what to do with it when they get there.
My real opinion of this whole circus so far is what I say above, the Republicans are like the Stooges!
In 2008 at least when the Democrats ran Hillary against Obama, there was no Stooges act, there was indeed intelligent conversations and discussions of the real issues at the time.Hillary ran strong and hard on the issues and came oh so close to being the first female President of the United States, and if you look at her today, she is one of the best Secretaries of State in the Nation’s History. So, why couldn’t the Republicans produce a competitive race for their Nomination this year, I do not know for sure, but I know this, you can’t let the Stooges over run Ted Healy until they can stand on their own act!.
