Hello,
Let’s discuss the Senior Dating scene in America and Massachusetts .
As a Senior Citizen and Male at age 70 in my area of Massachuetts, I find myself, alone these days.
I was a married man for 28 years and lost my wife to breast cancer in August of 2021. Life since has been not what I expected it to be. I find myself struggling, with how to move on in life and find someone new to share either with.
What I find is a reluctance on my own part to take chances that I took so many years ago to get married in the first place.
Let me explain a little more for all to understand clearly.
I was married for 12 years at one time, earlier in my life and had two daughters. That married dissolved into divorce, not due to my fault. Now, I will not claim I was perfect no one is, of either sex in a marriage. The marriage occurred while I was in the Service, and the fact it went 12 years, is pretty good in and of itself. Yet, the ending to me was bittersweet and created baggage for me emotionally and in other ways. It took me two years to begin to realize it was really over an dot accept it. Once I did, I figured out I had to move on in life for I was still in my thirties.
So, I started going to Single’s dances back then in the early 1990’s and hanging out and just trying to make some friends, and meet women
I was at such a dance one night when I spotted my wife to me sitting with her friends at a table. I found the courage to walk up to her and ask her to dance. That began, a relationship of dating, and then finally marriage, seven years later, we were together 28 years, just from that meeting, and we promised one another at our wedding to learn and grow from each other. We did just that.
The saddest thing I ever faced was my wife, having breast cancer and it wasn’t easy for either of us, of course. She went through a total of 16 years, of our 28 years together fighting it. At one point in the middle she went into remission and we both thought, she would be fine. When she did, then I was hit with lung cancer, myself. She stood by me, as I went through it, and had a lobe and a third of my right lung removed. I survived it well, and was very lucky, they found it early.
Well, not long after, my wife’s cancer came roaring back. Doctors, Chemos, radiations sessions, scans and more, I took her through and sat by her side. We fought it with all we had an dher spirit was strong, yet, in the end, the cancer won. I stayed with her, stood by her, loved her, cared for her and in the end I even hospice her at home, till she passed. It was an experience for me and it hurt deeply when I lost her.
Now it is five years later, I have grieved and cried and hid it all inside and have begun to overcome it all. Now it is the loneliness that gets me, more than anything else. I contemplate what top do next and if it is possible to find another women to love at 70 years old, here.
I miss the intimacy, the conversations, the interactions and more that such a relationship brought for me. I miss her smile, her laughter, her artsy qualities and her knowledge too. The quiet moments when we could cuddle, or just watch tv together or play a game, the walks and talks. She was my confident and advisor and I was her’s too. That is the kind of relationship, I loved and miss the most. Is it possible to find it again at 70 years old, I doubt it these days.
So, I decided to try dating apps on the internet to see if I could find someone to get to know. It was big mistake for men matter what I tried, I found scammers, liars and cheaters, and that isn’t right. I had fears of being taken for money or use for being abused. So, I stopped dating apps entirely. I know it sounds silly, but, women are not the only ones. With these kind of concerns and fears, out here.
Nowadays, I stay alone in my own condo, cold dating anyone in the compound I live in and basically walk a lot, read a lot, I bowl, and tried to have some fun is all.
I found that at 70, no woman wants an old man like me, because all my age get set in their ways. , I write poetry, I write stories and I write blogs. I post them online when I do, and just carry on day by day. So, I am lost and alone, and know not what is next! Suggestions would be nice.
