Memories of Yesterday

William M. McCurrach
When I was young, I ran the woods,
Looked for animals and nature and all that is good.
In my teenage years, I ran like the wind, thru the trees,
And fields and back again.
As I got a lil older, like all I know,
I did what all boys do,
And noticed the girls.
When I finally left school, and went to work,
I spent the money I made to give presents,
To those I loved, and who cared for me.
We were not rich, or wealthy,
We were not quiet or always peaceful,
But when it came to to it,
We knew who was who,
And who we could trust too.
As we age we go through stages,
Pieces stay with us for the ages.
The stages we go through you see,
Are the things that make you, you,
And Me, Me.
So when you look back in time,
And memories of family, friends ,loves ,you left behind,
You always remember the things you learned,
The special people you cared for,
But with time and aging you see,
All you have left are the memories.
Now I am old, at 70 you see,
The memories remain, of what used to be.
The days seem longer, the times more alone,
Yes as we age ,we find ourselves, alone, on our own.
We tend to struggle to keep going on,
We tend to stay more to ourselves, out of fears,
For what could happen ,you see.
So I, stay alone and walk through the fields,
In my own way,
Hoping, wondering ,if ,when I do pass,
Will I be remembered ,for the good I did,
As a kid, Tennager, serviceman, father, husband and more?
It is all I wonder ,now a days,
As I go on, thinking of the memories,
Of Yesterdays!.
